Black bull chat
Prices in the shop (as well as the vending machine in the games room) were cheap compared to other sites I have stayed at. There is a pub (Black Bull) at the entrance to the site which do great meals and welcome families and pets.A local Fish and Chip van comes to the site on Saturday and Monday evenings which was good.WEIGHMASTER REPORT Thirsty Liquor and Black Bull sponsored Field Weekend 3.Twenty-one members fished in what turned out to be very trying conditions with an annoying southeast wind making it a tough weekend. Dion 2.71kg, Roy with 2 both weighing 2.5kg and Peter K with the standout of the weekend with an impressive Kahawai of 3.24kg. Sponsored prizes for Field Weekend 3 went to Andy B with a snapper of 4.54kg.
Always had warm water for showers and washing up and the reception shop came in handy from time to time.
In total 57 fish crossed the scales consisting of, 32 Kahawai, 16 Snapper, 3 SSH, 3 Barracuda, 2 Red Cod and 1 Trevally. Kane took the prize for the average weight kahawai and Duncan took the prize for the other with his Trevally.
The standout catches came from the 2 Andy’s who both found some sheltered conditions and some quality snapper at Taylors Bay, Mahia. With no Gurnard caught the jackpot rolls over to the next field weekend.
The road into Pickering has twin BP petrol stations either side of the road, which means you can drive there to fill up and come straight back without having to negotiate any town traffic, always a bonus.
All in all I would highly recommend this site, it has a lot going for it.
